Summer is upon us: sun, heat and are you afraid of strong temperatures? Don't worry, let's go and enjoy an excellent granita.
But is the granita an ice cream?
Niente affatto, è semplicemente un composto a base di acqua, frutta e una bassa percentuale di zucchero. Il tutto in un composto semi-congelato con una consistenza più granulosa. E questo la differenzia dal gelato/sorbetto.
It originates from the domination of the Arabs in Sicily, and traditionally represents the typical Sicilian breakfast. It goes with the brioscia, a soft brioche.
Today we are going to taste one of the best granitas in Palermo, in the shadow of the old city gate Porta Nuova: Q-tuppo.
Many flavors available: from pistachio, to wild strawberries, chocolate, coffee, almond, mulberry and others based on fresh and well-selected ingredients. For the more demanding, fresh cream is also available.
We chose pistachio and strawberry as a pairing. The consistency itself, with fine pistachio grains, makes it unique, differentiating it from classic ice cream.
The brioscia here is handcrafted, very soft and the size of the palm of a hand.
Obviously the brioscia will be soaked in the granita... an explosion of unique taste where there is a serious risk of an encore.
The elegant location allows you to enjoy your granita right under Porta Nuova, in the shade and in complete relaxation.
You can easily reach this place by bike via the pedestrian area of via V. Emanuele. Just pass through the old city gate and you will immediately find yourself in front of this store. In fact, bicycles can transit within the pedestrian areas, always paying attention. Free from traffic, the bike will be your ideal companion for visiting the city.
All that remains is to wish you good granita and good brioscia!
